Under stressful conditions the speed with which an accurately aimed, reliable second or subsequent shot can be fired may well outweigh the stopping power, magazine capacity or mechanical repetition rate. In other words it is no good having a high powered super fast acting auto pistol if it's recoil makes your arm jump upwards and thus off target.
