Micheál Mac Giolla Coda is a third generation Irish beekeeper, from Cahir, Tipperary. He is a leading figure in the Irish beekeeping community, who has done more than anyone to publicise and breed the Dark Native Irish honey bee Apis mellifera mellifera. Micheál founded the Galtee Honey Farm in 1970. He is a founding member of the Galtee Bee Breeding Group that was formed in 1991. He was involved in the formation of the Native Irish Honey Bee Society (NIHBS).
Micheál has been influential in breeding and improving bees and has been an inspiration to others. He is an established exhibitor at honey shows, a registered honey judge and well known lecturer where he gives humourous lectures, mainly on bee breeding and queen rearing. He is a past President of both FIBKA and BIBBA.
