GB3LE Mark one 70 centimetre repeater

I was not licenced at the time that the Leicester Repeater Group was formed, but because of many delays in processing repeater applications (delays were common in those days) I was up and running on 70 cms well before it first went 'on air'.

The MK1 repeater was situated on the same site that subsequent machines have been, at Markfield... a few miles north of Leicester itself.

Whilst I was a prolific user of this UHF machine, I had nothing to do with it's design and maintenance. It was a popular 'box' and a speculative call could be expected to get a reply at almost any time of day or night.
